Meta adds VAT for Facebook ads in the Philippines

Similar to Steam, Meta has registered for VAT in the Philippines effective on June 2, 2025. The VAT will be added to the cost of Facebook ad purchases at the prevailing rate of 12%.

The news came to us in the form of an email from Meta for Business. Now, Meta is recommending users add their taxpayer identification number (TIN) to ad accounts. This also includes the VAT registration status that will be effective soon.

If readers are interested in how this is done, simply go to Payment Settings first. From there, click Open Payment Settings and click Edit under Business Info.

Scrolling down, you’ll see a field for Taxpayer ID Number. Once you see it, add your TIN details and then indicate your VAT registration status in the checkbox.

Meta also informs recipients that the company won’t charge users and add on VAT via the invoice IF a user is engaging in a Philippines-based business OR is VAT-registered.

Instead, users will be responsible for reverse charge, report and remit 12% VAT on ad purchase(s) to the BIR using BIR Form 1600-VT. The VAT paid can be claimed as input VAT credit(s) if a user meets the prescribed conditions by the BIR.
