PLDT Enterprise has announced the upcoming launch of SmartSafe SilentAccess, a new authentication system designed to replace one-time passwords (OTPs) and prevent OTP-related scams.
The corporate arm of PLDT said SilentAccess is the country’s first network-powered silent authentication solution, operating through Smart Communications’ nationwide network to verify users securely and seamlessly without relying on SMS codes.
“We envision PLDT to be the first to transition beyond OTPs in the country,” said Blums Pineda, PLDT and Smart senior vice president and head of Enterprise Business Group. “With SmartSafe, we are shaping the future of digital trust in the Philippines.”
According to Nico Alcoseba, first vice president and head of product management at PLDT Enterprise, the system “authenticates users in real-time and invisibly in the background, providing stronger protection against phishing and SIM-swap attacks.”
Smart, the wireless subsidiary of PLDT, recently obtained GSMA certification for its Open Gateway APIs, including Number Verification.
The move supports Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Circular No. 1213, which encourages financial institutions to adopt alternatives to SMS-based OTPs, and aligns with the NTC and National Privacy Commission (NPC) directives on enhancing digital security.
SilentAccess forms part of the broader SmartSafe fraud management API suite, which will soon expand to cover SIM swap detection, network location verification, safer digital access for roaming users, and network-based Know-Your-Customer (KYC) checks.
“With these technologies, we’re helping safeguard billions of digital interactions — from banking to e-commerce and government transactions,” Pineda said.
