The EOS R6 Mark III succeeds the 2023 R6 Mark II and raises sensor resolution to 32.5 megapixels. Canon says the new model offers faster performance, improved autofocus, and expanded video recording options, including 7K 60p internal RAW and 3:2 Open Gate recording for greater flexibility in post-production.
Continuous shooting reaches up to 40 frames per second with the electronic shutter or 12 fps using the mechanical shutter. A new pre-continuous shooting feature allows the camera to capture up to 20 frames before the shutter is fully pressed.
Autofocus improvements include subject-tracking refinements and a function that prioritizes registered individuals during group shooting — a feature previously found on Canon’s flagship EOS R1.
Video capabilities have been expanded to include internal RAW recording, Canon Log 2 and 3, HLG gamma, and compatibility with the Cinema EOS Custom Picture profiles.
Users can now apply official or custom LUTs from Canon’s LUT Library through the Camera Connect app. Monitoring tools such as waveform, false-color, and zebra displays are also available.
The camera supports the LP-E6P battery and optional BG-R20 grip, and retains the R6 Mark II’s body design with refinements for handheld and vertical shooting.
Alongside the new camera, Canon introduced the RF45mm f/1.2 STM, its smallest and lightest f/1.2 lens in both the EF and RF lineups. The lens uses PMo aspherical elements and a gear-type STM motor to achieve a compact 346-gram build.
On full-frame cameras, it offers a standard 45 mm perspective; on APS-C bodies such as the EOS R50, it provides a 72 mm equivalent field of view suited for portrait work.
